Escaping the City’s Wake

Ready for Peace and Quiet

We woke up early to head over to the St. Augustine Municipal Marinia to wash our laundry before our paid dinghy dockage expired at 11 AM. Tom left for West Marine and breakfast goodies, and returned to magically clean clothes.

We left our busy anchorage around noon, but once we passed the St. Augustine Inlet, the current knocked us back to only 4 MPH, which meant we wouldn’t arrive at our next anchorage until after dark. Instead, we decided to turn around to a nearby anchorage at Anastasia Island, where hopefully it would be less busy. But that anchorage turned out to be much shallower than we were comfortable with. So we pivoted yet again and dropped the anchor just north of the inlet and waited out the tide.

Once the tide was in our favor, we made our way north to Pine Island, just about desperate to escape the constant wakes of St. Augustine boat traffic. We arrived to a quiet and absolutely stunning anchorage. Exactly what we needed after successfully escaping the city! Over the last few miles we opened the throttles to 3100 RPM and hit 16.5 mph speed over ground (SOG) for a new speed record on our Loop boat, Swamp Puppy. Swampy can move when she stretches her legs!
