Muskegon was the perfect place to wait out incoming weather on Lake Michigan. We had originally hoped to anchor near the entrance of Muskegon Lake, at Muskegon State Park, but there was a fair amount of boat traffic in that area. Our anchor didn’t get a good grab on the first drop, so rather than try again there we cruised further on Muskegon Lake.

Our Muskegon Lake anchorage near Heritage Landing had very convenient dinghy access, which made it easy to explore the town. This anchorage is located immediately adjacent to the Hartshorn Marina mooring field, and in front of several industrial buildings. There was a decent amount of boat traffic entering and exiting the marina, so we did experience wake at this anchorage over the three nights we were there.

Our timing here was perfect, and we managed to catch another farmer’s market on the Great Loop! We grabbed some collards, kabocha squash, tomatoes, snow peas and more. It was a fantastic market! The Muskegon Summer Market runs from May to November, every Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 8 AM – 2 PM.
