There aren’t a lot of anchorage options near Chicago – it’s pretty much this one or the one right near downtown Chicago, which is known for being a party area.

We spent two nights anchored here in front of the Steelworkers Park, and while it wasn’t a bad spot, it wasn’t great either. We did have some protection from the break wall but it was still a bit rolly with all the commercial traffic.

This anchorage is immediately adjacent to the mouth of the Calumet River, which is an alternate route that bypasses downtown Chicago. Loop boats that are taller than 17′ must take the Calumet River, and we saw several Loopers head this way.

Downtown Chicago and the Chicago Harbor Lock is ~11.5 miles from this anchorage.

This was our very last stop on Lake Michigan.
