This anchorage at Calabash Creek is only 500′ from the North Carolina Border! But that’s probably the only remarkable thing about it. It’s less than 500′ from a marked channel, and there’s not a lot of wake protection.
As you approach the anchorage, you can’t help but notice the partially sunken boat along the shoreline. That’s probably the last thing you want to see at an anchorage.
It’s a tight spot to anchor! There’s really only room for one or two larger boats, but after we dropped our anchor next to a small sailboat, another vessel joined us for a rolly afternoon.
It’s shallow immediately outside channel, so we were almost in the channel depending on our swing. The small channel is just off the ICW and was popular with smaller boats.
We consider this an anchorage of utility – ideally no one would stay there. But the anchor held great!
