across from U.S. navy Ships!
There’s a free dock at High Street Landing, which is also the South Passenger Ferry Landing Basin. It’s only 10 miles from the Great Bridge Free Dock, making this a great section for dock-hopping!
This dock provided some incredible views and boat-watching opportunities. There were several naval ships being repaired, just on the other side of the Elizabeth River. Many commercial ships and other Loopers passed by during our stay.
Mooring is limited to 36 hours, and there is no power, water or other amenities. There are a lot of restaurants and other businesses nearby. You can also take the ferry over to Norfolk from here.
The ferry runs about every 30 minutes, and can churn the basin quite a bit, making it a bit choppy at times. Be sure to take note of the tidal changes if you tie up here!
Overall, for a free dock, it was great!
