A Quiet & Historic Anchorage

A MUST-STOP! Plan for a half-day exploring the fort and historic ruins at Fort Frederica National Monument.
We stayed one night at the Fort Frederica anchorage, just off the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway through Georgia’s St. Simons Island. We anchored right near the fort itself, and enjoyed both a spectacular sunset and sunrise.
To visit Fort Frederica National Monument, you can dinghy over to the kayak dock at the fort. It’s a little more challenging than a traditional dock, but it worked just fine for us!

NOTE: The dinghy dock is not accessible two hours on either side of low tide – it’s just exposed mud and oyster beds.
We were the only boat in this anchorage for the night we spent there, and we couldn’t have asked for more idyllic conditions. We awoke to perfect mirror-like water, disturbed only by the ploppping of fish.
